NEW DELHI May 14, 2026 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has called on all BRICS member states to explicitly condemn what he described as repeated “brutal and unlawful aggression” by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Speaking at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi today, Araghchi delivered a strongly worded address, urging the bloc and the international community to take concrete action to halt “warmongering” and end the “impunity” of those who violate the United Nations Charter.
“Iran has, within the span of less than a year, twice been subjected to brutal and unlawful aggression by the United States and Israel,” Araghchi said. “Iranians never bow to pressure or threats.”
He further accused the United Arab Emirates of playing an active role in the attacks on Iran, stating there is “no doubt” about its involvement. The remarks highlight growing divisions within the expanded BRICS group, which now includes both Iran and the UAE.
The appeal comes amid a fragile ceasefire that ended a recent intense regional conflict lasting approximately 40 days. Tensions escalated with reported disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global energy markets.
India, which holds the current BRICS chair and will assume full chairmanship in 2026, has emphasized dialogue, stability, and economic cooperation rather than issuing strong joint political statements.
BRICS — comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, the UAE, and other partner nations — continues to position itself as a platform for multipolarity. However, Araghchi’s call tests the bloc’s ability to present a unified front on sensitive geopolitical issues.
The meeting in New Delhi underscores the challenges facing BRICS as it navigates complex international relations while prioritizing trade, development, and alternative global governance structures.
