OMAN April 26, 2026 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held high-level talks with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said at Al Baraka Palace in Muscat on Sunday, focusing on bilateral relations, regional developments, and security in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X shortly after the meeting, Araghchi expressed gratitude to his Omani hosts, stating: “Appreciative of my gracious hosts in Oman. Important discussions on bilateral matters and regional developments. As only Hormuz littoral states, our focus included ways to ensure safe transit that is to benefit of all dear neighbors and the world. Our neighbors are our priority.”

The Strait of Hormuz — the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman — is one of the world’s most critical chokepoints for global energy supplies, with roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil trade passing through it. Iran and Oman are the only two countries with coastlines directly on the strait.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry and reports from the meeting, the discussions also addressed diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing Iran-U.S. conflict and broader Gulf security. Araghchi reportedly stressed that a regional security framework free from external interference is essential for stability in the area.
Oman has long served as a neutral mediator in Gulf tensions and previously hosted talks aimed at de-escalation. The meeting comes as Iran continues intensive regional diplomacy, including recent engagements in Pakistan where Islamabad is mediating between Tehran and Washington to resolve tensions and reopen disrupted shipping lanes.
The visit underscores both nations’ commitment to dialogue and cooperation at a time of heightened regional sensitivities. Araghchi is expected to continue his diplomatic tour with further stops, including Moscow.Photos from the meeting show Araghchi and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq shaking hands warmly at the palace.
