GEORGE TOWN, April 26, 2026— A 14-year-old Penang schoolgirl has etched her name into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after successfully memorising and reciting the first 300 digits of Pi, becoming the first teenager to achieve the feat in this category.
K. Poonyamitra, a Form Two student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (P) St. George (St. George’s Girls School), accomplished the record on February 9, 2026. She was officially recognised under the category “Most Pi Recited from Memory by a Teenager”.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today congratulated the young achiever on social media, posting:
“Setinggi-tinggi tahniah saya ucapkan kepada K. Poonyamitra, anak Malaysia berusia 14 tahun yang baru sahaja menerima pengiktirafan Malaysia Book Of Records atas kejayaan beliau menghafal 300 digit Pi!”
The minister also officiated a special award ceremony held at the Sri Kunj Bihari Temple in Penang, where Poonyamitra received her official MBOR certificate along with a computer as a token of appreciation from the Penang State Hindu Endowments Board.
Poonyamitra, who practiced diligently for two months by memorising at least 10 digits of Pi daily, has already made her mark as a memory athlete. She previously won the Memory Athlete category in Kids Got Talent Malaysia Season 9 and secured runner-up in the ASEAN World Records Rising Starz Icon 2025.
Her mother, S. Thilagam, has been a constant source of support throughout her journey.
The achievement has been hailed as an inspiration for Malaysian youth, underscoring the power of dedication, discipline, and consistent effort in nurturing exceptional talent.
It also aligns with the #MalaysiaMADANI vision of empowering the next generation through education and personal excellence.
