ISLAMADAB April 25, 2026 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian this evening, describing the exchange as “warm and constructive.”
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), PM Sharif said the leaders discussed the evolving regional situation.
“I appreciated Iran’s continued engagement, including the high-level delegation to Islamabad led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, whom I had the pleasure of meeting earlier today,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister further reaffirmed Pakistan’s diplomatic stance: “With the support of friends and partners, Pakistan remains committed to serve as an honest and sincere facilitator — working tirelessly to advance durable peace and lasting stability in the region.”
The call comes amid Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts between Iran and the United States. Iran recently sent a high-level delegation to Islamabad for talks, but US President Donald Trump canceled a planned visit by American envoys, citing insufficient progress at this stage.
Pakistan has positioned itself as a neutral bridge-builder, leveraging its relations with both Tehran and Washington to promote dialogue and de-escalation following recent regional tensions.
Analysts say Islamabad’s role highlights its strategic importance in the region, with PM Sharif’s government continuing high-level engagements to support peace initiatives.
