BUTTERWORTH, April 25, 2026 – Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today visited the home of Razif Saidin, an assistant engineer with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), to personally deliver welfare assistance from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund.
Razif, 44, has served RTM for 21 years as a Penolong Jurutera (Assistant Engineer). He has been suffering from chronic nerve complications following a motorcycle accident in 2023 and requires continuous physiotherapy and medication.
The Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative, launched in April 2023, has so far benefited 727 media practitioners nationwide. The programme reflects the MADANI Government’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of the media community, especially those in need.
During the visit, Fahmi also announced that Pulau Pinang has been selected as the host for Hari Wartawan Nasional (HAWANA) 2026. The national celebration will be officiated by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
HAWANA 2026 is expected to gather approximately 1,000 media practitioners from Malaysia and abroad. It will serve as a major platform to strengthen strategic cooperation in the media industry at both national and ASEAN levels. Invitations have been extended to communications and information ministers from ASEAN countries, international media representatives based in Malaysia, local media practitioners, and industry veterans.
In today’s digital media landscape driven by technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and rapid information flow, HAWANA 2026 will emphasise the importance of strengthening media credibility, ethics, and public trust.
HAWANA is celebrated every year on 29 May, commemorating the first publication of Utusan Melayu on 29 May 1939, as a mark of appreciation for the contributions of media practitioners to national development.
Also present at the aid presentation were Ministry of Communications Secretary-General, Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
