PUTRAJAYA April 22, 2026 – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming today praised the Madani government’s fuel subsidy programme, stating that Malaysia’s RON95 petrol price under the Budi Madani (Budi95) initiative is among the cheapest in the world.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Teluk Intan MP shared an infographic titled “The World’s Highest GASOLINE PRICES” listing the top 20 most expensive countries as of 13 April 2026. Hong Kong topped the list at USD4.14 per litre, followed by Malawi (USD3.84), Netherlands (USD2.80), and Israel (USD2.76). The 20th country, the United Kingdom, stood at USD2.14 per litre.

Nga wrote in Malay: “Biar Fakta Bicara. Harga RON 95 Malaysia di bawah budi Madani merupakan antara harga yg paling murah di dunia. Saya bersyukur.” (Let facts speak. Malaysia’s RON95 price under Budi Madani is among the cheapest in the world. I am grateful.) He tagged the post with #MADANIBekerja.
Under the Budi95 subsidy scheme, eligible Malaysians (those with a valid driving licence) pay a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre for RON95 petrol, subject to a monthly quota (currently set at 200 litres for most users). The unsubsidised market price for RON95 during the current pricing period (16–22 April 2026) is RM4.02 per litre, down 25 sen from the previous week. RON97 stands at RM5.10 per litre.
At current exchange rates, the subsidised RON95 price equates to roughly USD0.45–0.50 per litre — well below the global average of approximately USD1.49–1.50 per litre.
The minister’s post comes amid ongoing global oil price volatility. The government has maintained the RM1.99 subsidised rate for RON95 as part of efforts to ease the cost of living for ordinary Malaysians.
This latest statement underscores the Madani administration’s continued focus on targeted subsidies to protect consumers while managing fiscal responsibilities.
