PUTRAJAYA April 21, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received a courtesy visit from Sh Abdulla Suleiman Hamed Al Harthy, Chairman of National Gas Company SAOG (Oman), to bolster strategic cooperation and explore new investment opportunities aimed at ensuring the stability of Malaysia’s energy supply.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister emphasised that the meeting comes at a critical time as geopolitical conditions in West Asia (the Middle East) become increasingly tense and unpredictable.
“The MADANI Government is acting early and with caution by strengthening networks with trusted partners like Oman to protect the interests of the people,” Anwar said.
He described the expansion of cooperation in oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade as more than just an option, but a strategic necessity.
“This is to ensure the country’s energy supply chain remains stable and to avoid cost pressures that could burden the people and businesses,” he added.
Anwar stressed that the government will not remain idle in the face of increasingly complex global crises.
“Every step taken is directed, centred on the interests of the people, and ensures that Malaysia remains prepared, resilient, and not exposed to energy supply shocks,” he said.
The meeting was held in a formal setting with delegations from both sides present. Official photographs released by the Prime Minister’s Office show Anwar Ibrahim, dressed in his signature white shirt, warmly shaking hands with the Omani chairman and engaging in discussions with the full delegation.
The visit underscores Malaysia’s proactive diplomacy to diversify energy sources and safeguard national energy security, particularly as global supply chains face ongoing uncertainties.
