TEHRAN April 2, 2026 — Amid rising tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, a senior Iranian military official has declared that Tehran is fully prepared for any potential U.S. ground invasion and will respond with overwhelming force.
In a televised address broadcast on Iranian state media late Wednesday, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, senior spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff, stated that Iran is “waiting for American ground operations” to begin.
“We will teach them such a lesson that they will never attempt to invade any country again — not even the weakest country in the world,” Shekarchi said, according to English subtitles accompanying the broadcast.
The remarks were delivered against a backdrop of large pro-government rallies in Tehran, with crowds waving Iranian flags and chanting in support of the regime. The statement comes as U.S. and Israeli forces continue airstrikes and other military operations targeting Iranian assets, following weeks of heightened conflict in early 2026.
Iran has repeatedly rejected any notion of surrender or ceasefire, insisting its military doctrine — built around asymmetric warfare, missile capabilities, and deep defensive preparations — makes any large-scale U.S. ground operation extremely costly.
The comments echo similar defiant rhetoric from other senior Iranian officials in recent days. Analysts note that while Tehran has suffered significant losses from precision strikes, its leadership continues to project strength and readiness for prolonged resistance.
U.S. President Donald Trump has not publicly confirmed any plans for ground troops, though Pentagon sources have previously indicated contingency planning for limited operations, possibly targeting strategic sites such as Kharg Island.
The full video of General Shekarchi’s statement has circulated widely on social media, including via accounts monitoring BRICS and Middle East developments.
