PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, June 25, 2025 — Ahead of tomorrow’s groundbreaking ceremony for Kota MADANI Putrajaya, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa addressed widespread misconceptions about the project. In a statement, she provided factual clarifications to counter public concerns.

Myth 1: Kota MADANI will replace Putrajaya?
Fact: Kota MADANI is not a replacement for Putrajaya but a small component within it, spanning just 102 acres (0.8% of Putrajaya’s total area) in Precinct 19.
Myth 2: The project is a waste of public funds?
Fact: The RM4 billion development is fully funded by private developers through a Build-Lease-Maintain-Transfer (BLMT) model managed by Putrajaya Holdings. The government incurs no costs, and the developer will cover maintenance expenses. After 25 years, the project will be transferred to the government.
Myth 3: Is Kota MADANI necessary?
Fact: The project addresses a critical need, providing 10,000 new housing units for civil servants. Over 17,000 applications for government quarters remain unfulfilled due to a shortage of existing units.
Myth 4: Why use the name MADANI?
Fact: MADANI reflects values of humanity, balance, justice, and sustainability, not a political label. Kota MADANI aligns with the CHASE city vision—clean, healthy, advanced, safe, and eco-friendly—incorporating low-carbon elements, green networks, smart mobility, and cutting-edge technology.
Dr. Zaliha emphasized that civil servants deserve quality housing and that Putrajaya must continue to evolve as an inclusive, forward-thinking administrative hub. She urged the public to reject misleading narratives and focus on the project’s benefits.
The Kota MADANI initiative is set to strengthen Putrajaya’s role as a model city while addressing pressing housing needs for the nation’s workforce.
