NEW YORK February 28, 2026 – The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, delivered a forceful defence of President Donald Trump’s military operation against Iran during an emergency United Nations Security Council briefing on February 28, 2026.
In remarks shared by the U.S. Mission to the UN on X (formerly Twitter), Ambassador Waltz highlighted the “moral clarity” of what the administration calls “President Trump’s decisive action in Iran” — referring to the large-scale U.S.-Israeli joint airstrikes known as **Operation Epic Fury**.
“Those who stand with us must know that their security is not negotiable,” Waltz stated. “The safety of our allies is not conditional. It is assured.”
He concluded: “The bottom line is this: Our allies and partners can count on the United States and count on President Trump.”
The operation, launched early on February 28, targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, ballistic missile programme, naval assets, and infrastructure used to arm proxy militias across the Middle East. President Trump has described the strikes as necessary to eliminate existential threats and has publicly stated that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attacks — a claim Iran has disputed.
The emergency Security Council session was called after the strikes, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemning the action and urging an immediate return to negotiations to de-escalate tensions.
Ambassador Waltz’s address came as a direct rebuttal to criticism from Iran and several council members, emphasising that the U.S. action was taken to protect American interests and those of its partners after years of Iranian aggression, including alleged plots against U.S. officials and support for attacks on allies.
The video of Waltz’s full remarks, posted by the U.S. Mission to the UN, has been widely circulated as Washington seeks to rally international support amid fears of further regional escalation.
As Iran has begun retaliatory missile strikes on U.S. bases and Israeli targets, the Trump administration continues to stress that America stands firmly behind its allies.
Life News Agency will continue to monitor developments at the United Nations and in the Middle East.
