PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA February 12, 2026 – The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) yesterday issued an official statement to address media reports and public confusion regarding the offering of the History subject in primary and secondary schools under the upcoming 2027 School Curriculum.
According to the statement, at the primary school level, History will only be offered to Year 5 and Year 6 students. At the secondary school level, the subject will be introduced starting from Form 1.
The clarification was provided by Deputy Minister of Education, Wong Kah Woh, during the oral question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday. He emphasised that the new curriculum will begin implementation next year, starting with Year 1 primary students and Form 1 secondary students.
The MOE stressed that this restructuring is intended to ensure History is taught at a stage appropriate to students’ developmental readiness.
The media statement was released to clear up misunderstandings arising from recent media coverage on the implementation of the History subject across both primary and secondary levels.
The 2027 School Curriculum is scheduled to roll out in phases beginning in 2027.
