BANGKOK, December 19, 2025 – Malaysia has etched its name in the annals of Southeast Asian sports history by securing a haul of one gold, one silver, and four bronze medals in Kabaddi at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand—the sport’s debut appearance at the regional multi-sport event.
Under the stewardship of team manager ASP Arul Prakash Balakrishnan, the Malaysian squad showcased exceptional discipline, effort, and fighting spirit throughout the competition. The three-star event, held at Rajamangala University of Technology in Bangkok, saw the national team—comprising athletes from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), including key player Lance Corporal Suresh Leong Kim Seng—deliver standout performances.
In the men’s circle style event, Malaysia triumphed over hosts Thailand with a convincing 28-16 victory in the final, claiming the historic gold medal. The women’s team put up a valiant fight but settled for silver after a narrow 22-23 defeat to Indonesia in their championship match.
Both the men’s and women’s squads also earned bronze medals in the standard style category, rounding out Malaysia’s impressive medal tally in the discipline.
The entire PDRM community, often referred to as the “Sang Saka Biru” (Blue Sash Warriors), expressed profound appreciation for the athletes’ dedication, commitment, and unyielding spirit, which have brought glory to the nation and the force on the international stage. “You are our pride!” resonated as a fitting tribute to their achievements.
This breakthrough in Kabaddi not only highlights Malaysia’s growing prowess in emerging sports but also underscores the role of national institutions like PDRM in nurturing talent for global competitions. As the SEA Games continue, these victories are expected to inspire a new wave of interest in the sport back home.
