Sydney, December 17, 2025 — Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has appealed for Australians to unite in the wake of the deadly terror attack at Bondi Beach, while expressing profound gratitude to the medical professionals who saved lives during the crisis.
In a video shared on his official X account late on December 16, Albanese directly addressed the nation’s healthcare workers for their heroism amid the tragedy.
The post’s caption read: “Doctors. Nurses. Surgeons. Radiologists. Pathologists. And so many more. We’ve seen humanity at its very best, as you’ve worked tirelessly to save lives. We can’t thank you enough.”
Speaking to reporters in the video clip, Albanese stressed the importance of coming together as a nation.
“We need to, as a nation, come together to unite,” he said. “To make sure that we celebrate the best of humanity that we have seen here in the nurses and medical professionals who provided that care and support to their fellow Australians. They saved lives in a traumatic experience. They responded with professionalism, with compassion, and with the best of Australian values.”
The Prime Minister’s message follows the December 14 mass shooting at Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration, which killed at least 15 people and wounded many others. Australian authorities, including Albanese, have described the incident as an antisemitic act of terrorism, carried out by a father-and-son duo who were Australian citizens.
Albanese previously labeled the attack an “act of pure evil, an act of terror, an act of antisemitism.”
As the nation mourns, vigils and memorials have been held across Sydney, with members of the Jewish community and broader public showing solidarity. The Prime Minister’s call for unity comes amid heightened emotions, with some online reactions criticizing government policies on security and extremism.
