Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Urges Ethical Embrace of AI Amid Lecture Insights

KUALA LUMPUR,  MALAYSIA, Oct 21, 2025 – Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs, expressed gratitude for attending a keynote lecture on artificial intelligence (AI) that underscored the need for human wisdom in harnessing the technology’s potential, while warning against losing sight of ethical foundations.

The lecture, titled “AI in the Human and Worldly Context,” was delivered by renowned scholar Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar, whose incisive perspectives on knowledge have long influenced academic and policy circles. Speaking on the event via social media, the minister highlighted key takeaways from the session, emphasizing AI’s profound implications for ethics, morality, and human conduct.

“True, this technology opens up vast spaces,” Saifuddin Nasution said, acknowledging AI’s expansive opportunities. “But at the same time, it demands our wisdom to control it.”

The minister, who oversees the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), stressed that while concerns warrant scrutiny, outright rejection of technological advancement is untenable. He revealed his proactive stance within the ministry, where he routinely urges agencies to explore and leverage AI’s capabilities—provided they are grounded in core human values and accountability.

“This sharing today truly opens up space for thought,” he reflected. “It reminds us that in pursuing progress, we should not lose direction. AI may be able to imitate the way humans think, but it will never imitate the way humans feel. And that’s where our superiority and responsibility as humans lie.”

Saifuddin’s comments come amid growing global debates on AI governance, with Malaysia positioning itself as a regional leader in balancing innovation and societal safeguards. The lecture, part of a premier academic series, drew on Islamic and philosophical lenses to contextualize AI’s role in human affairs, resonating with the minister’s call for responsible adoption.

As KDN continues to integrate AI into operations—from security analytics to administrative efficiencies—Saifuddin Nasution’s remarks signal a commitment to ethical frameworks that prioritize human empathy over mechanical mimicry.
