Malaysia Urges Ceasefire Amid Rising Tensions at Cambodia-Thailand Border

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia. July 24, 2025 — Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday held discussions with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai to address Malaysia’s concerns over escalating tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

Speaking in his capacity as ASEAN Chair for 2025, Anwar called for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further conflict and pave the way for peaceful dialogue and diplomatic resolution.

In a statement, Anwar welcomed the positive signals and willingness shown by Bangkok and Phnom Penh to consider the proposal. He affirmed Malaysia’s readiness to facilitate the process, emphasizing ASEAN’s spirit of unity and shared responsibility.

“I am confident that ASEAN’s strength lies in its solidarity, and peace must always be our unwavering collective choice,” Anwar said.

The Malaysian government reiterated its commitment to supporting efforts to de-escalate the situation and foster regional stability.
