KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 28, 2026 — The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) conducted a major enforcement operation at an entertainment centre in the Bukit Bintang area, detaining 31 foreign nationals for various immigration offences.
The raid began at 3.15am on February 26, 2026 and involved 85 immigration officers and personnel, including members of the Special Tactical Team (PASTAK).
A total of 98 foreigners were screened during the operation. Of those, 31 individuals were arrested for overstaying their permitted stay and failing to produce valid travel documents.
The detainees comprise nationals from Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, the Philippines and several African countries. Two Nigerian men were specifically arrested for allegedly misusing their student passes by working as DJs — an offence under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
All 31 foreigners are being held at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot pending further action. They are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
Separately, two local Malaysian citizens were issued notices to attend the Immigration Department office to assist with the ongoing investigation.
In a statement, JIM said it will continue to intensify focused and integrated enforcement operations to ensure full compliance with immigration laws nationwide.
The operation reflects JIM’s ongoing commitment to curbing immigration violations in entertainment hotspots across the capital.
