KIEV, UKRAINE February 28, 2026 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thrown his support behind the ongoing US and Israeli military operation against Iran, describing the regime in Tehran as a “terrorist” sponsor of aggression that has directly fueled Russia’s war on Ukraine.
In a strongly worded statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) today, Zelenskyy said events in the Middle East and Gulf region are “unfolding extremely rapidly” and drew direct parallels with Ukraine’s suffering.
“Although Ukrainians never threatened Iran, the Iranian regime chose to become Putin’s accomplice and supplied him with ‘Shahed’ drones — and not only the drones themselves, but also the technologies to produce them,” Zelenskyy wrote. “Iran also provided other weapons to Russia.”
He noted that Russia has fired more than 57,000 Shahed-type attack drones at Ukrainian cities, energy infrastructure and civilians since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
“Other nations have also suffered from Iranian-backed terror,” he added. “Therefore, it is fair to give the Iranian people a chance to rid themselves of a terrorist regime and to guarantee security for all nations that have suffered from terror originating in Iran.”
Zelenskyy praised the decisive action by the United States under President Donald Trump, saying: “It is important that the United States is acting decisively. Whenever there is American resolve, global criminals weaken. This understanding must also come to the Russians.”
He stressed the need to “preserve as many lives as possible” and “prevent the war from expanding,” while expressing hope that the Middle East will become “safer and more stable.”
“Ukraine is ready to help every nation so that security and justice increase, and terrorist regimes decrease,” Zelenskyy concluded.
The statement comes hours after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian targets, including sites linked to the regime’s leadership, ballistic missile program and military infrastructure. President Trump has described the operation as “major combat operations” aimed at neutralizing threats and giving Iranians an opportunity to topple their rulers.
Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks on US bases and Gulf states, triggering a rapidly escalating regional crisis.
Ukraine has long accused Iran of supplying Russia with weapon systems used against civilian targets. Kyiv has repeatedly called for international sanctions and isolation of the Iranian regime for its role in the war.
Zelenskyy’s comments mark one of the strongest expressions of support from a Western-aligned leader for the US-Israeli action on the same day the strikes began.
Life News Agency will continue to monitor developments in both the Middle East and Ukraine-Russia fronts.
