KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA Dec 15, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, emphasized the need for a more structured screening process for contractors to ensure that only those who are truly active and capable are given opportunities in the national construction sector.
He stated that this measure is crucial to prevent unhealthy competition that ultimately harms genuine contractors and jeopardizes the overall sustainability of the industry.
The remarks were delivered as Zahid Hamidi officiated the Dinner Gala in conjunction with the Opening of the 46th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Malay Contractors Association (PKMM) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur last night.
Zahid also stressed the importance of strengthening trust in the system and ministries to ensure smooth project implementation. He asserted that issues of project delays must be viewed fairly and comprehensively, including factors such as delayed payments.
“Contractors cannot possibly continue work without a regular flow of funds,” he said.
The government, Zahid added, is committed to ensuring a more transparent, competitive, and sustainable ecosystem in the construction industry. He expressed hope that through close cooperation between the government, associations, and industry players, the sector can continue to be empowered as a driver of economic growth and job opportunities for the people.
