PUTRAJAYA, March 1, 2026 – Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) has issued an urgent travel advisory urging citizens in or planning to visit Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to exercise heightened vigilance following fresh security developments in the Middle East.
In Press Release 020/2026 released today, Wisma Putra said it is closely monitoring the situation after reported attacks and the heightened escalation involving Iran and Israel. The ministry noted renewed military strikes, heightened security responses, airspace closures and flight disruptions across parts of the region.
“Malaysians in the region are strongly advised to anticipate sudden changes to flight schedules, possible airport closures, and travel restrictions, and to make immediate contingency arrangements where necessary,” the press release stated.
The advisory strongly urges Malaysians, particularly those in or near affected areas, to maintain a high degree of vigilance, avoid areas of military activity and public gatherings, and strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities. Non-essential travel to these countries should be deferred until the security situation stabilises.
All Malaysians residing in or travelling to the listed countries are urged to immediately register and update their contact details with the nearest Malaysian Diplomatic Mission or via the e-Konsular portal at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my to facilitate timely assistance if required.
The ministry has provided full contact details for Malaysian embassies and consulates in the affected countries, as well as direct lines to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Operations Room and Consular Division in Putrajaya for emergencies.
Wisma Putra reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare and safety of Malaysian citizens abroad and stands ready to provide consular assistance.
The full press release, including all embassy contact numbers and emails, is available on Wisma Putra’s official channels and social media platforms.
Malaysian travellers and residents in the region are advised to stay updated through official government sources and to contact the nearest mission immediately in case of any emergency.
