ABU DHABI, UAE March 3, 2026 — The United Arab Emirates’ air defense systems have successfully confronted and largely neutralized a wave of Iranian ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones targeting the country, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence.
In a graphic announcement posted on X (formerly Twitter) late Monday, the Ministry detailed the scale of the assault and the effectiveness of UAE interceptors. The infographic, emblazoned with the UAE coat of arms and dated March 2, 2026, shows:
– 174 ballistic missiles detected, of which 161 were intercepted and 13 impacted in the sea.
– 8 cruise missiles detected and all 8 intercepted.
– 689 UAVs (drones) detected, of which 645 were intercepted and 44 impacted within state territory.
The statement is headlined: “UAE Air Defense Successfully Confront Iranian Missile and Drone Attacks.” It underscores the “high readiness” of the UAE’s air force and air defense forces in dealing with the threats.
This latest update comes amid Iran’s ongoing retaliatory strikes on Gulf states, launched in response to U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iranian targets that began in late February 2026. Iranian projectiles have targeted multiple countries in the region, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and others.
Earlier Ministry statements reported progressively rising interception totals, with Sunday’s figures showing 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles, and more than 540 drones engaged. The Monday update reflects continued attacks over the weekend and into the week.
While interception rates remain exceptionally high (above 92% for most categories), debris from intercepted projectiles has caused limited damage and casualties on the ground. UAE officials have confirmed three fatalities and 68 minor injuries since the strikes began, along with fires and minor structural damage in parts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including areas near iconic landmarks and the Jebel Ali Port.
Residents and international observers in Dubai reported hearing explosions and seeing interception flashes in the sky, but normal life has largely continued, with airports temporarily suspending some operations for safety. One resident’s video shared on social media showed calm scenes at Dubai Mall shortly after the latest intercepts.
The Ministry of Defence praised the precision and readiness of UAE forces, stating that the nation’s skies remain secure. No further details on specific weapon systems used (such as Patriot or other advanced interceptors) were released.
This incident marks one of the most significant direct aerial confrontations involving the UAE in recent years and highlights the escalating regional tensions following the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran.
