DOHA, QATAR February 28, 2026 – Thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising near the Barwa area in Doha on Saturday after Iran launched ballistic missiles toward Qatar, local media and eyewitness video reported.
A video posted by Doha News captured dense smoke billowing into the sky following multiple loud explosions heard across the Qatari capital. Residents described successive blasts and emergency alerts blaring in the city.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that all incoming Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted before reaching Qatari territory, with no reports of casualties or material damage.
“The country’s air defence systems, operating in joint coordination, thwarted the attacks,” the ministry stated.
The incident forms part of Iran’s retaliatory strikes against U.S. military installations in the Gulf, following joint U.S.-Israeli preemptive operations against Iranian targets earlier today. Iran reportedly targeted Al Udeid Air Base — the largest U.S. facility in the region, located near Doha — along with bases in the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the missile launches as a “blatant violation of its national sovereignty” and reserved the right to respond.
Similar interceptions were reported across the Gulf. In the UAE, authorities confirmed one death from falling debris in Abu Dhabi, while Kuwait and Bahrain also reported successful defences with no major damage.
In Doha, air raid sirens and shelter advisories were issued, though many residents continued daily activities after the immediate threat was neutralized. Emergency alerts briefly interrupted live broadcasts, including on Al Jazeera.
The Defence Ministry and Ministry of Interior reiterated that the situation remains under control.
This escalation marks a sharp intensification in Middle East tensions, drawing Gulf states hosting U.S. assets deeper into the conflict.
Life News Agency continues to monitor developments. No further missile activity has been reported in Qatar as of this update.
