WASHINGTON D.C Dec 14, 2025 — President Donald Trump addressed multiple recent violent incidents during remarks at the White House on Sunday, including strongly condemning the deadly antisemitic terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach that killed at least 11 people during a Hanukkah celebration.
In a video posted by the White House, Trump paused before beginning a scheduled event to pay respects to the victims of three separate attacks: a shooting at Brown University in the United States, the terrorist incident in Australia, and an ambush on U.S. forces in Syria.
“That was a terrible attack — 11 dead, 29 badly wounded. And that was an antisemitic attack, obviously,” Trump said of the Bondi Beach shooting. “I pay my deepest regards and respects from the United States of America.”
The president also praised a bystander — described in reports as a brave individual, reportedly a Muslim man — who confronted one of the gunmen and helped prevent further loss of life. “There was a very brave person who went and attacked frontally one of the shooters and saved a lot of lives,” Trump noted, adding, “Great respect to that man.”
Australian authorities have classified the Bondi Beach incident as a targeted act of antisemitic terrorism. Two gunmen opened fire on crowds gathered for the “Chanukah by the Sea” event hosted by Chabad of Bondi on Sunday evening, killing at least 11 people (with some reports citing 12, including one gunman) and injuring 29 others, including two police officers.
In separate comments to Fox News, Trump urged American Jews observing Hanukkah to “celebrate proudly” and not fear for their safety in light of the attack overseas. “They do not need to be worried. They should celebrate proudly, and they should be proud of who you are,” he said.
