KUALA LUMPUR, April 12, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has appealed for restraint within his party and the public, stressing that Malaysia’s economic challenges must take precedence over internal political disputes.
In a media interaction following Friday prayers on April 10, 2026, at Masjid Nurussaadah, the PKR president responded to growing calls for disciplinary action against Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli by saying:
“Tak apalah… kita minta bertenang, tumpu masalah ekonomi negara yang lebih serius daripada masalah peribadi.”
(Translation: “It’s okay… let’s all calm down first and focus on the country’s economic problems, which are far more serious than personal issues.”)
The statement was captured in a video clip that quickly went viral on social media, shared widely under hashtags such as #partikeadilanrakyat, #anwaribrahim and #rafiziramli.
The remarks come amid heightened internal tensions in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). Rafizi Ramli, the former Economy Minister and ex-PKR deputy president, recently received a second show-cause letter from the party’s disciplinary board over comments perceived as critical of the leadership. Rafizi has defended his position and reportedly challenged the party to expel him if his explanations were deemed unsatisfactory.
Anwar, who also serves as PKR president, deliberately downplayed the personal and party-level friction, redirecting attention to broader national priorities.
Political observers note that the episode highlights ongoing factional dynamics within PKR even as the unity government continues to navigate economic reforms, subsidy rationalisation and cost-of-living pressures.
The full 15-second clip, originally posted by social media account @jasonyew, has sparked lively debate online, with supporters praising Anwar’s leadership style while critics question the timing and handling of internal party discipline.
As of April 12, neither PKR’s disciplinary board nor Rafizi has issued further public statements on the matter. The Prime Minister’s office has not released any additional comment beyond the on-the-spot remarks.
