MEROTAI, SABAH, MALAYSIA November 21, 2025 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Merotai State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, Datuk Ruji Ubi, described the cooperation between PH and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) as a “union of determination” that goes beyond ordinary politics, but a joint effort to ensure the Merotai area is no longer left behind.
In a post on his social media platform today, Datuk Ruji, who is also the former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, shared photos of a friendly gathering with GRS supporters and popular local figure, Cikgu Jai.
“A friendly gathering with Cikgu Jai and GRS supporters. Thank you for the truly meaningful support. I realize it is not easy for us to walk together, but for the sake of Merotai, renewal is necessary — and the courage to change comes from the sincerity of all of us,” wrote Datuk Ruji.
He also stressed that a PH victory in the upcoming state election would also be a victory for GRS.
“A PH victory is also a GRS victory. This cooperation is not just a coalition of parties, but a union of determination to voice the people’s aspirations and ensure Merotai is no longer left behind,” he added.
Datuk Ruji, who is contesting on a PH ticket in this Malay-Bugis majority seat, appears increasingly confident with cross-party support, especially from GRS grassroots.
“InsyaAllah, with this spirit of togetherness, we can bring about better and more sustainable change for the whole of Merotai,” he affirmed.
This development is expected to further strengthen PH’s position in the Tawau interior areas, where GRS support has remained strong since its formation. Local political analysts view this move as a smart strategy to narrow the gap between the federal unity government and the Sabah state government.
