KOTA KINABALU, December 29. 2025 – In a move to strengthen Sabah’s industrial and investment landscape, Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport Datuk Ewon Benedick has appointed new chairmen for the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) Sabah and Invest Sabah Berhad.
Former Sabah Minister of Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau has been named the new Chairman of POIC Sabah, while Datuk Roger Chin takes the helm as Chairman of Invest Sabah Berhad. Additionally, former Sabah Customs Director Datuk Jonathan Kandok was appointed as Deputy Chairman of POIC Sabah.
The appointment letters were presented during a simple ceremony at the Minister’s Meeting Room in Wisma Kewangan today.
In his speech, Ewon emphasised that the appointments of these experienced figures reflect the state government’s commitment to advancing Sabah’s investment, industrial, and logistics sectors in an orderly, inclusive, and high-impact manner.
He reiterated his dedication to the “Sabah First” agenda, focusing on creating investor- and entrepreneur-friendly ecosystems.
“This appointment aligns with the ‘Sabah First’ approach, where the interests and benefits to the people and Sabah’s economy are always prioritised,” Ewon said. “I believe with their vast experience and expertise, POIC Sabah and Invest Sabah will continue to play strategic roles in attracting quality investments and enhancing the state’s competitiveness.”
The newly appointed leaders expressed gratitude to the state government for the trust placed in them and pledged full commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities.
Also present were Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Datuk Thomas Logijin, POIC Sabah CEO Datuk Gredian Gan, and Invest Sabah CEO Dr. Firdausi Suffian.
These appointments come as Sabah continues to prioritise downstream palm oil processing through POIC and broader foreign direct investment via Invest Sabah, amid ongoing efforts to boost economic resilience and local participation in key industries.
