PUTRAJAYA. MALAYSIA Dec 14, 2025 — Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued a strong condemnation of the deadly terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, where gunmen targeted a Hanukkah celebration, killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens more.
In a statement, Anwar described himself as “deeply alarmed” by the violence, which Australian authorities have classified as an antisemitic terrorist incident.
“I condemn this act in the strongest terms,” Anwar said. “There can be no justification for violence directed at civilians, still less for attacks that single people out on the basis of race or religion, at any time or in any place. Such acts have no basis in any faith or belief.”
The prime minister extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift and full recovery to those injured.
“Malaysia stands in firm solidarity with the people and Government of Australia at this difficult time,” he added, “and fully supports all efforts to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.”
The attack occurred on Sunday evening during a public Hanukkah event hosted by the Chabad of Bondi, marking the start of the Jewish festival. Australian officials, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, have described it as a targeted act of antisemitism and terrorism.
International leaders, including from countries across the Middle East and beyond, have joined in condemning the violence.
