MADANI Govt Slashes SST on Fruits, Beauty Services in New Relief Measures

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia June 27, 2025– Malaysian Government has announced several new measures to ease the burden on the public and businesses, following approval by the Cabinet.

Key decisions include:

Increase in SST threshold : The threshold for businesses subject to the Sales and Service Tax (SST) has been raised from RM500,000 to RM1 million. For construction companies, the threshold remains at RM1.5 million.

SST exemption for daily essentials : Items such as oranges, apples, mandarins, dates, and other daily necessities are now exempt from SST.

Exemption for beauty services: Beauty services are also exempted from the tax.

According to Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, these measures reflect the MADANI Government’s commitment to listening to public feedback and ensuring policies that benefit all.

“The government will continue to consider public input in formulating inclusive and progressive policies,” she said in a statement.

These steps are expected to benefit small and medium enterprises as well as consumers, in line with the government’s efforts to boost the economy while safeguarding public welfare.
