PARIS, FRANCE February 28, 2026 – French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a stark warning over the outbreak of direct war between the United States, Israel, and Iran, describing the rapidly escalating conflict as carrying “grave consequences for international peace and security.”
In a detailed statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) this afternoon, Macron addressed the joint US-Israeli military operation launched earlier today — dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” by the Pentagon — which targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, missile sites, and military infrastructure across Tehran and other cities. Iran has retaliated with missile strikes on Israel and US bases in the Gulf region.
“At this decisive moment, every measure is being taken to ensure the security of our national territory, our citizens, and our interests in the Middle East,” Macron stated. “France also stands ready to deploy the necessary resources to protect its closest partners, should they request it.”
The French leader urged immediate de-escalation, declaring: “The ongoing escalation is dangerous for all. It must stop.”
He directly addressed the Iranian regime, insisting it “must understand that it now has no other option but to engage in good faith in negotiations to end its nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as its regional destabilization activities. This is absolutely necessary for the security of all in the Middle East.”
Macron went further, criticising the Islamic Republic’s leadership: “The Iranian people must also be able to freely build their future. The massacres committed by the Islamic regime disqualify it and demand that the voice be returned to the people. The sooner, the better.”
To address the crisis at the highest diplomatic level, France is calling for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. Macron added that he is in “close contact with our European partners and friends in the Middle East.”
The statement marks one of the strongest early European responses to the conflict, which erupted after months of heightened tensions, failed nuclear talks, and repeated threats from US President Donald Trump to neutralise Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
European leaders have expressed alarm, with the European Commission and Council presidents jointly describing the developments as “greatly concerning” and warning against further steps that could inflame the region or undermine global non-proliferation efforts.
The fast-moving situation has already triggered airspace closures across multiple countries, reports of explosions in Tehran and other Iranian cities, and Iranian missile barrages targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US forces.
Life News Agency will continue to monitor developments as the crisis unfolds.
