KOSOVO January 3, 2026 – In a public statement on social media platform X, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani expressed unwavering solidarity with the United States and President Donald Trump regarding recent U.S. measures targeting Venezuela’s government, which she described as a “narco-terror regime.”
Osmani highlighted Trump’s longstanding opposition to Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, emphasizing the protection of global security from cartels and organized crime. “President Trump stood with the people of Venezuela and stood up to Maduro’s narco-state — protecting America and the rest of the world from cartels and organized crime,” she wrote. “This is what strength and American leadership look like.”
Drawing a parallel to Kosovo’s own history, Osmani noted the role of U.S. intervention in her country’s liberation from conflict in the late 1990s. “Kosovo understands the impact of American resolve — our own liberation is a testament to it,” she stated, underscoring the importance of transatlantic unity. She called for broader support, arguing that “the transatlantic community is strongest when united behind American leadership and shared values.” The post concluded with a message of collective freedom: “When America leads, we proudly stand together — because our collective freedom depends on it,” accompanied by Kosovo and U.S. flag emojis.
The statement comes amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela, following reports of intensified sanctions and diplomatic pressures under the Trump administration. Osmani’s endorsement aligns Kosovo closely with U.S. foreign policy, reflecting the Balkan nation’s historical gratitude toward American support during its path to independence.
Reactions to Osmani’s post were mixed, garnering over 170 likes and dozens of reposts within hours. Some users praised her stance, with one calling for her re-election, while others criticized the comparison between U.S. actions in Kosovo and Venezuela, suggesting motivations like oil interests. One reply questioned the relevance: “The American intervention in Kosovo was to stop a genocide, and has nothing to do with the intervention in Venezuela which is done for oil reasons – which Trump himself has said.”
Osmani’s office has not yet provided additional comments on the statement. This development highlights ongoing geopolitical alignments in the region, as Kosovo continues to strengthen ties with Western allies amid global shifts in leadership.
