KAJANG, SELANGOR, MALAYSIA January 5, 2026 – Police in Kajang have arrested a 31-year-old local man suspected of attempting to steal cables in the Sungai Lalang area of Semenyih.
According to a media statement released by the Kajang District Police Headquarters on 4 January 2026, the arrest was made on 3 January 2026 at approximately 1:30 AM. The suspect, who works in the private sector, was apprehended along with a motorcycle believed to have been used in the attempted theft.
A preliminary urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for methamphetamine (locally known as syabu). Police records show the man has 17 previous convictions related to drug offences.
The suspect has been remanded for four days, until 6 January 2026, to assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities are still pursuing other individuals believed to be involved in the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
