MINAB, IRAN February 28, 2026 — At least 51 young girls are reported dead and dozens more injured after a US-Israeli missile strike directly hit a primary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab, according to Iranian state media and local officials.
The attack targeted the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary girls’ school, where approximately 170 students aged 7 to 12 were attending classes. Rescue teams are still searching through the rubble, with many victims trapped beneath collapsed sections of the building.
Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) initially reported 5 deaths, then 24, before the toll rose sharply to 40 and then 51. At least 45–60 others were wounded in the strike on the school in Hormozgan province.
The incident forms part of a major coordinated US-Israeli military operation launched earlier today against multiple targets across Iran, including sites near Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s offices in Tehran and other strategic locations. US President Donald Trump announced the start of “major combat operations” and urged Iranians to “take over your government.”
Iran has responded with ballistic missile barrages targeting Israel and US-linked bases in the Gulf region.
Video footage circulating on social media, including a widely shared post by BRICS News (@BRICSinfo) that has garnered over 162,000 views, shows the devastating aftermath at the school site, with emergency responders and civilians amid the ruins.
International reaction has been swift, with calls for de-escalation and condemnation of civilian casualties. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the strikes as an “unprovoked armed attack.”
Life News Agency continues to monitor developments as rescue efforts proceed and further casualty figures are confirmed. This tragedy highlights the severe human cost to innocent civilians—particularly children—amid rising regional tensions.
