TAWAU, SABAH, MALAYSIA Nov 19. 2025 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Merotai State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, Datuk Ruji Ubi, has vowed to fight for a more inclusive education system, particularly for children with special needs, if given the mandate to win the seat in the upcoming Sabah State Election.
The pledge was made after he visited a child with autism at Taman Hotspring, Tawau, on Wednesday afternoon.

During the visit, the single mother of the child shared her struggles in raising a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as well as the challenges faced after these children complete secondary school.
“Many autistic children only attend school up to Form 5, and after that, there is no clear direction. They need suitable skills-training centres so they can become independent in the future,” Datuk Ruji quoted the mother as saying in a post on his official Facebook page.
The former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs stressed that the Merotai area does not only need physical infrastructure development but also a truly inclusive education system that covers all groups.
“Insha Allah, if entrusted with the responsibility, I will ensure that the children of Merotai, including those with special needs, receive fair and equitable educational opportunities,” he affirmed.
The post has attracted considerable attention from netizens who support efforts to empower individuals with special needs in Sabah, especially in rural and remote areas such as Merotai.
Datuk Ruji Ubi is currently actively campaigning ahead of the Sabah State Election, which is expected to be held soon.
