BEIJING February 28, 2026 — China has voiced strong concern over the joint military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran today, calling for an immediate end to the operations to prevent further escalation and restore peace in the Middle East.
In an official statement posted on X by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson, Beijing stressed respect for Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
“China is highly concerned over the military strikes against Iran launched by the U.S. and Israel. Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity should be respected,” the statement said.
It added: “China calls for an immediate stop of the military actions, no further escalation of the tense situation, resumption of dialogue and negotiation, and efforts to uphold peace and stability in the Middle East.”
The remarks come as explosions rocked multiple Iranian cities including Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, and others earlier today following coordinated US-Israeli airstrikes. Reports indicate targets included nuclear and missile facilities as well as high-level leadership sites. US President Donald Trump announced “major combat operations” under Operation Epic Fury, framing the action as necessary to neutralise threats from Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.
Iran has responded with missile launches targeting Israel and US bases in the Gulf region, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict that could disrupt global energy supplies.
China, a major buyer of Iranian oil and a key diplomatic player through initiatives such as the Belt and Road, has long advocated for dialogue over confrontation in the Middle East. The statement aligns with Beijing’s consistent position against unilateral military actions and in favour of multilateral solutions.
The accompanying official graphic released by the MFA highlights the key call for de-escalation:

Analysts say the rapid escalation follows stalled talks on Iran’s nuclear programme and could have ripple effects on global oil prices and trade routes, including those vital to Southeast Asia.
