CANBERRA, July 25, 2025 – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has issued a stark warning about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing it as surpassing the world’s worst fears. In a statement released today, Albanese emphasized that every innocent life—Israeli and Palestinian—matters, urging immediate action to address the conflict’s devastating toll.

The Prime Minister highlighted the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, with children starving amid a dire humanitarian catastrophe. He condemned Israel’s denial of aid and the killing of civilians, including children seeking water and food, as indefensible and called for Israel to comply with international law. This includes ensuring safe, unhindered access for the United Nations and NGOs to conduct lifesaving work.
Albanese firmly rejected any proposals for the permanent forced displacement of the Palestinian population and reiterated Australia’s condemnation of Hamas’s terror and brutality, demanding the immediate release of remaining hostages. He expressed support for international efforts to facilitate a ceasefire, noting that an immediate and permanent truce offers the best hope for bringing hostages home and easing the agony of their loved ones.
Reflecting on Australia’s historical support for the creation of modern Israel, Albanese underscored the global vision of a two-state solution—Israel and Palestine—long a bipartisan stance in Australia. He stressed that a just and lasting peace depends on this outcome, committing to a future where both peoples can live in peace and safety within secure, internationally recognized borders.
Until that day, Albanese called for every effort to safeguard innocent lives and end the suffering and starvation in Gaza, signaling Australia’s resolve to push for humanitarian relief and diplomatic resolution.
