PUTRAJAYA. MALAYSIA, Sept 30, 2025 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today revealed plans to revamp the General Studies (MPU) curriculum following a presentation by Higher Education Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir. The proposed changes aim to enhance the content, scope, and delivery of MPU to foster stronger national values and patriotism among students.

The proposal stems from extensive consultations with stakeholders, including scholars, public universities, the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Ministry of Defence, and others. These discussions focused on evaluating the effectiveness of MPU and charting a new direction for its implementation.
Anwar welcomed the initiative to refresh the MPU framework, ensuring it remains relevant and impactful in cultivating national pride. As a first step, he directed the Ministry of Higher Education to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to prioritize core subjects such as Bahasa Melayu and History, including in private and international schools.
The revamped MPU will extend beyond public and private universities to include all training institutes nationwide. The proposal will also be tabled at the Cabinet to strengthen national awareness and produce a knowledgeable, principled, and patriotic generation.
