PUTRAJAYA, July 21, 2026 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi joined officers and staff of the Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (Immigration Department of Malaysia) this morning to mark the 104th anniversary of the department.
In his remarks, Zahid — who previously served as Minister of Home Affairs, the ministry responsible for immigration — praised the commitment, dedication, and sacrifices of immigration personnel in safeguarding Malaysia’s sovereignty and securing the country’s entry points.
He noted that the world is changing rapidly and stressed that the Immigration Department must evolve alongside these changes by strengthening technology adoption, integrity, and professionalism. This, he said, would ensure the department remains a trusted strategic institution capable of protecting national security and interests.
Zahid outlined four key mandates under the theme “Melakar Wajah Baharu Imigresen” (Charting a New Face for Immigration) as the strategic compass for the department’s ongoing transformation:
- Empowering the Immigration Department’s role as a facilitator of economic growth
- Strengthening national security
- Accelerating digital transformation
- Continuously enhancing integrity, professionalism, and humanitarian values
He expressed gratitude to all immigration officers for their service and wished the department continued success as a pillar of national sovereignty and a source of pride for Malaysians.
The celebration included formal gatherings with department personnel and highlighted the department’s long-standing role since the introduction of early immigration controls in 1922.
Zahid’s participation underscores the government’s focus on modernising key enforcement agencies while balancing facilitation of legitimate travel and trade with robust border security.
