PENAMPANG, SABAH May 30, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the Sabah-level Pesta Kaamatan 2026 harvest festival here today for the third time in his capacity as Prime Minister, joining the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, and Rungus communities in a vibrant celebration of culture and unity.
In his speech, Anwar praised the festive atmosphere filled with ethnic dances and a strong spirit of togetherness, describing the event as more than a traditional celebration—it reflects Malaysia’s ability to preserve harmony amid diversity.
He highlighted Sabah’s growing role as a key driver of national economic growth, citing rising investments, tourism advancements, and infrastructure development that underscore the state’s vast potential.
Addressing long-standing aspirations for fairer development and the implementation of rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Anwar reaffirmed the MADANI government’s commitment to delivering Sabah’s 40% revenue share entitlement.
As an immediate step, he announced an increase in the state’s interim special grant from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion this year—an additional nearly RM1 billion injection aimed at ensuring Sabah receives equitable treatment and deserved development benefits. The final rate will be determined in discussions with the Sabah state government.
The announcement comes ahead of ongoing negotiations on the full 40% entitlement, following a High Court directive for a joint federal-Sabah review.
Anwar expressed heartfelt thanks to the people of Sabah for their warm welcome and departed Penampang with renewed confidence in the state’s bright future under the MADANI administration’s efforts to deliver progress and prosperity for all Malaysians.
He concluded with traditional greetings: “Kotobian Om Taun, Sikaan Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan.”
The event underscores the federal government’s focus on balanced national development, with Sabah positioned as an increasingly important contributor to Malaysia’s growth story.
