KUALA LUMPUR May 23, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today attended the Wacana Harmoni MADANI event in conjunction with Wesak Day celebrations, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding, human values, and harmony in Malaysia’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
The event, held at Menara KEN in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), featured the Prime Minister’s address underscoring the nation’s foundational principles of unity.
In his speech and subsequent social media post, Anwar Ibrahim highlighted that Malaysia was built on the spirit of “Bersekutu Bertambah Mutu” (Unity is Strength) under the leadership of the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. He noted that diversity has been the bedrock of the country since independence.
“Islam is the religion of the Federation, with the Malay and Bumiputera communities forming the majority. Yet from the beginning, the nation was developed with an attitude of mutual respect and honouring the diversity of races and religions,” he said.
Anwar reiterated that the Malaysia MADANI vision strengthens the values of ihsan (compassion), adab (civility), and humanity as core pillars of nation-building. He called for the continuous nurturing of interfaith dialogue and discourse rather than the daily exploitation of issues to sow hatred and fear for narrow political gains.
He urged moderate Malaysians who cherish peace to speak up in defence of national unity, warning against allowing the “tyranny of the minority” — groups that play up racial and religious sentiments — to undermine the country’s future.
“Harmony and mutual respect between races and religions are Malaysia’s true strength,” the Prime Minister stressed.
The event aligns with Wesak Day observances, which this year serve as a platform to renew commitments to unity, dignity, and coexistence. Several ministers, including Transport Minister Anthony Loke, were also present.
This latest call comes amid ongoing efforts under the MADANI framework to foster inclusive national development while safeguarding religious harmony.
