DOHA April 21, 2026 – Qatar is actively monitoring escalating regional tensions and remains in close contact with international partners, including the United States, to support diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful solution, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said today.
In his weekly media briefing, Advisor to the Prime Minister and MOFA Official Spokesperson Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari emphasized Qatar’s unwavering commitment to de-escalation amid the ongoing crisis.
“Qatar continues to maintain ongoing communication with various parties, including the United States, to follow developments… and to support efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful solution to end the crisis,” Dr. Al Ansari stated.
He expressed full support for mediation initiatives led by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, noting continued coordination with Pakistani officials. “It is too early to speak of the failure of ongoing negotiations,” he added, highlighting that the international community broadly backs these efforts.

Dr. Al Ansari warned that any closure of the Strait of Hormuz would transform the current regional crisis into a global one, severely disrupting energy supplies, logistics chains, and everyday services worldwide. “Ensuring that the strait remains open to navigation [is] a shared international responsibility,” he said, reaffirming Qatar’s role as a reliable energy partner and its dedication to maritime security and market stability.
The spokesperson described Qatar-Pakistan relations as “historic and strategically important,” rooted in long-standing brotherhood and cooperation. He also noted that Qatar’s policy of diversifying defense partnerships is a continuous priority and not tied to any specific event.
On other regional files, Dr. Al Ansari reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast support for the Syrian people and its commitment to developing bilateral ties with Syria across political and economic domains. Regarding Lebanon, he welcomed the recent ceasefire as a positive first step toward de-escalation while stressing the need for full adherence and a strong international response to any violations. Qatar remains firmly committed to Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, he said.
In recent high-level contacts with Iran, Qatar urged Tehran to halt attacks on countries in the region and work toward a peaceful resolution, while continuing to back Pakistani mediation efforts.
Dr. Al Ansari reiterated that all regional crises can only be resolved through dialogue at the negotiating table. He expressed hope that the current US-Iran ceasefire could be extended if a comprehensive agreement is not immediately reached, warning that renewed escalation would harm the global economy and regional security.
The briefing underscored Qatar’s consistent foreign policy of promoting dialogue, stability, and constructive engagement across the Middle East.
