PONTIAN, JOHOR, MALAYSIA February 15, 2026 – Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the additional building at Hospital Pontian, emphasizing the government’s commitment to accelerating essential infrastructure projects and improving healthcare access for the people.
In his speech at the event, PM Anwar reiterated his firm stance against delayed or problematic (“sick”) infrastructure projects, stating that such delays burden both citizens and the government. He stressed that the public expects tangible improvements rather than repeated excuses.
“Delays in projects or those classified as ‘sick’ must be expedited without relying on time extensions that only add to the burden on the people and the government,” Anwar said.
He called on relevant parties to adopt more proactive approaches, including improving implementation methods, selecting truly capable contractors, and strengthening ongoing monitoring and oversight.
The Pontian Hospital expansion project aligns with the Kerajaan MADANI administration’s goal of fast-tracking basic infrastructure development at the district level, ensuring healthcare facilities are delivered more quickly and efficiently to communities.
To ensure smooth progress, PM Anwar has directed that this project be designated as a fast-track initiative under the coordination of the Ministry of Health, with clear targets set for timely completion.
“Insya-Allah, this is part of the government’s continuous efforts to strengthen the national healthcare system and ensure medical services are more comfortable, competitive, and accessible to the rakyat,” he added.
The ceremony marks a key step in enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Pontian and surrounding areas, reflecting the administration’s #MADANIBekerja focus on efficient delivery and public welfare.
This initiative is part of broader efforts under the Malaysia MADANI framework (#MalaysiaMADANI, #RancakkanMADANI) to prioritize people-centric development and eliminate bottlenecks in public projects.
