PORT KLANG, MALAYSIA February 12, 2026 – The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Port Klang successfully intercepted the entry of nine containers carrying prohibited materials, including electronic waste (e-waste) and scheduled waste, during a physical inspection operation conducted on 11 February.
The operation was led by AKPS Port Klang Commander DCP Datuk Nik Ezanee Bin Mohd Faisal at the CT1 Container Scanner Unit inspection site, West Port Klang. The inspection involved collaboration with multiple agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM/MACC), Department of Environment (JAS/DOE), Port Klang Authority (LPK), SIRIM, and Westports.
Out of the 10 containers inspected, nine were found to contain unauthorised cargo:
– 7 containers contained e-waste (discarded electrical and electronic equipment).
– 1 container contained scheduled waste.
– 1 container contained a mixture of plastic and paper waste.
One additional container contained only industrial machinery with no prohibited materials. The total weight of the suspected cargo was 195,720 kilograms.
All the containers originated from the United States. The importation of scheduled waste and e-waste is strictly prohibited under the Environmental Quality Act 1974, which aims to protect the environment from pollution caused by hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, and other toxic components commonly found in e-waste.
AKPS Port Klang emphasised that continuous enforcement actions will be taken to ensure Malaysia is not turned into the world’s “dumping ground”. This operation demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to strengthening border controls and inter-agency cooperation to safeguard environmental sustainability and national sovereignty.
Congratulations to all agencies involved in this important effort! Such decisive measures are essential to prevent the smuggling of hazardous waste that could threaten public health and the country’s ecosystem.
